Cookies & Storage

What gets stored on your device, why, and how to get rid of it. Under Article 45c of the Swiss Telecommunications Act you have to be told this and told you can refuse it.

The short version

This website sets no cookies. None. There is no analytics tag, no advertising pixel, no retargeting, no session recording, no fingerprinting and no social tracker on any page. That is why there is no consent banner in your way — there is nothing here that needs one.

One thing is stored: the language you picked, and only if you pick one.

What Swiss law asks for

Article 45c of the Telecommunications Act allows storing or reading data on your device when it is needed to deliver the service, or when you have been told what is stored and why and told that you may refuse. That is an inform-and-refuse rule, not the prior opt-in the EU requires. This page is that information, and the button below is that refusal.

What the website stores

NameKindWhat forHow long
pinily.langLocal storageRemembers the language you chose so a shared link opens in itUntil you clear it

That is the whole list. Clearing it means the site falls back to your browser's language, which is the behaviour before you ever chose one — nothing else changes.

Requests that leave this site

No cookie is set, but two things do reach another server when you load a page, and your IP address goes with them because that is how the web works:

  • The typeface is loaded from Google Fonts, so Google receives the request. It sets no cookie from that.
  • On a shared event or invite page only, the event details are fetched from Pinily's own backend, hosted in Sweden.

What the app stores on your phone

The Pinily app is not a browser and uses no cookies. It stores this on your device:

WhatWhereWhy
Your sign-in sessionPlatform keychain / keystoreSo you are not signed out every time you close the app
Your message historyAn encrypted local databaseChats are end-to-end encrypted, so the server cannot search them — your phone has to
Your encryption keysPlatform keychain / keystoreReading your own messages
SettingsApp preferencesTheme, language, distance units, data saver, which tips you have seen
Cached imagesApp cacheSo the same photo is not downloaded twice
A device identifierSecure storageSpotting fraud at ticketed check-ins. Generated by Pinily; not your advertising ID

To clear it: sign out to drop the session, use Settings → Events → clear cache for the images, and uninstalling removes everything. Your encrypted chat backup, if you made one, is separate and is deleted with your account.

Refusing

Use the button below to clear what this site has stored. You can also block storage for pinily.com in your browser settings — the site works either way, it just stops remembering your language.
